Mike Scioscia: Amateur Baseball Development Group

Mike Scioscia

In the summer of 2004, Angels Manager Mike Scioscia, Kevin Muno and Randy Riley founded the Amateur Baseball Development Group (ABDG) with the mission to raise funds to help local Southern California high school baseball programs, and to organize leagues and teams for boys ages 14-23. The Annual Mike Scioscia Charity Golf tournament was created as the primary fund raiser to accomplish the ABDG goal to support amateur baseball players, and the funds have allowed ABDG to help improve local baseball facilities in local parks and donate grants to schools all over Southern California.

The ABDG also holds the Mike Scioscia Youth Clinic, a free event at Angels Stadium for baseball lovers of all ages. To date, the clinics have allowed thousands of kids to meet and learn from players and coaches at the major league level.

Albert Pujols: Pujols Family Foundation

Albert Pujols

In 2005, Albert and Deidre Pujols launched the Pujols Family Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to their "commitment to faith, family and others." Their organization aims to (1) promote awareness of Down syndrome and works to support those who have it and their families, (2) supports people with disabilities and/or life threatening illnesses and (3) aids the impoverished children and families living in the Dominican Republic.

  • FAITH seeks to improve the standard of living and quality of life for those who are less fortunate, and are currently serving children and families in La Romana, Batey de Las Pajas, and Batey Aleman in the Dominican Republic.
  • FAMILY aspires to promote awareness, provide hope, and create supportive and memorable events for the families and children who live with Down syndrome. Albert and Deidre have a beautiful daughter with Down syndrome, so this initiative is especially near to their hearts.
  • OTHERS believes every person is special in the eyes of God and strives to provide extraordinary experiences for people with disabilities and/or life threatening illnesses. The Foundation partners with many charitable organizations to help make a difference in the lives of thousands of deserving children and families.

Albert has taken several trips to the Dominican Republic, taking supplies as well as a team of doctors and dentists to the poor who need medical care. The Foundation also holds an annual golf tournament to raise money to send dentists to the Dominican Republic.
