Established in 1997, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation focuses its efforts on three main areas of need: homelessness, indigent healthcare and children's programs of all types, including education and youth baseball field development. In addition, the Foundation has created strategic programs that address the needs of our community including veterans, police, teachers, and firefighters - just to name a few. To date, the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation have made charitable contributions totaling more than $45 million to non-profit organizations from across Arizona.
In 2012, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation partnered with the University of Phoenix to launch the D-backs School Challenge, a statewide grant program that challenged public, private and charter schools to "make their best pitch" for a $5,000 grant. The charitable grants have helped schools from across the state with innovative programs such as vocational activities for special education students, digital sculpting for animation art classes, community gardens, after school fitness classes and much more. Through the School Challenge program, the D-backs have provided more than 120 schools with grants for an overall monetary commitment of more than $600,000 since the program launched in 2012. Launched in 2013, the Arizona Diamondbacks Science of Baseball presented by Chase and Insight, is a series of programs and initiatives that promote the importance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The program provides a mechanism for elementary and middle school students to improve their academic performance. The goal is to translate the American love of baseball into an appreciation, understanding, and passion of the science and mathematics underlying the sport. This season-long program aims to engage and empower students with a university research-based curriculum, designed with College Professor and STEM Expert Ricardo Valerdi. In 2012, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, Helios Education Foundation and College Success Arizona teamed up to provide four-year college scholarships to Arizona High School seniors. The D-backs Helios Scholarship program represents a $1 million commitment to education for Arizona students in charitable support from the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation and a $500,000 match from the Helios Education Foundation. The program targets students who have completed a college preparatory program, demonstrate academic strength and a compelling desire to attend college, with a priority given to students with limited financial resources. Each year, the D-backs host over 500 participating students at a D-backs home game for the United Blood Services High School Banner Night.
