Phils, Eagles team up to fight breast cancer
About five weeks ago, Phillies president David Montgomery and Eagles president Joe Banner had a discussion about teaming up for a tremendous cause.

Over the past five weeks, the discussions intensified, and on Tuesday a partnership between the highly successful franchises came to fruition.

The Eagles kicked off their 2009 Tackling Breast Cancer (TBC) initiative by announcing a partnership with the Phillies through which the franchises are teaming up to support the Jefferson Breast Care Center. The cornerstone of the partnership is a co-branded T-shirt that features the Philadelphia skyline and the logos for both teams. The T-shirt was unveiled at Tuesday's news conference at Jefferson and will be available for $20 through October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

All of the proceeds will be donated to the Jefferson Breast Care Center.

During the Eagles games at Lincoln Financial Field on Oct. 11 and Nov. 1, volunteer nurses and staff from Jefferson University Hospital will be selling TBC merchandise, including a pink hat, an original scarf and other items, throughout the stadium. More>

The Game Ball Club: Baseball's Exclusive Lounge

There is an exclusive club in baseball that no amount of money can get you into. Only the hustle and dumb luck that comes with catching a game ball can grant you access. Some may say the 500 home run or the 300 wins clubs are the most exclusive in baseball. However even Hank Aaron and Nolan Ryan could have a difficult time getting past these velvet ropes. If you're a member of the Game Ball Club, Major League Baseball wants to hear your story. Did you dive five rows down to grab a foul ball? Did you catch a home run in the bleachers? Whatever you may have done to join this exclusive club, we want to hear about it!

Community service takes stage at Series
Community service will be front and center just about everywhere you look this week, and Major League Baseball will be right at the forefront with the World Series on FOX.

Major television networks will incorporate the iParticipate.org campaign into its regular prime-time programming this week, putting the theme of personal involvement into the center of conversation in an unprecedented way. MLB will be part of that and will celebrate the World Series by raising awareness for the causes of veterans, volunteerism, cancer research and youth development as a continuation of its Go Beyond initiative.

It will be an extension of baseball's season-long theme that was so visible during All-Star Week festivities last July in St. Louis, where 30 role models representing People magazine's "All-Stars Among Us" were honored by baseball and all five living U.S. presidents.

The first four games of the World Series will celebrate Welcome Back Veterans, community service, Stand Up To Cancer and Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) presented by KPMG and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America -- in respective order.

The charitable and community-service initiatives will be among the most extensive in World Series history. More >
