RING RAFFLE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
This FAQ does not cover all details and restrictions governing the Raffle. Please review the full Official Rules »
- How much do Raffle Tickets Cost?
- Raffle Tickets are $10 each regardless of location or method of purchase. There's no limit on number of tickets a qualified purchaser may buy.
- What are the prizes in this Raffle?
- In honor of the loyalty of Red Sox Nation, we are creating a RED SOX FAN TEAM with this raffle. There are a total of ten (10) prizes will be awarded in the Raffle. Like the 9 starting players on a team, the first Nine (9) winners will receive one (1) genuine Boston Red Sox 2007 World Series Championship Ring. One winner (the lucky tenth) will receive one (1) Special Edition 2008 Red Sox C30 Volvo. Estimated replacement value of the 2007 World Series Ring is approx. $20,000 each. Retail value of the Volvo is approx $30,000. (See car at select NE area Volvo dealers or Gate C in Fenway Park.)
- Where do the net funds raised by this Raffle go?
- All net proceeds benefit the Red Sox Foundation - a 501(c)3 public charity - and the programs and charitable donations that it supports. The Red Sox Foundation's outreach centers on 4 cornerstone programs: the Jimmy Fund, the Red Sox Scholars program, the Dimock Center in Roxbury and children's athletics programs including Rookie and RBI youth baseball. In addition to these programs, each year the Red Sox Foundation supports a rotating group of New England-based non-profits serving children and families in need. For more information, visit www.redsoxfoundation.org.
- Where can I purchase Raffle Tickets?
- There are TWO WAYS and many locations WHERE you can buy Tickets.
- Raffle Tickets may be purchased IN PERSON at the Red Sox Foundation’s Massachusetts sales locations by ANYONE who is 18 years or older REGARDLESS OF STATE OR COUNTRY of residence, through July 5, 2008 at 11:59a.m.ET or until the maximum 200,000 Tickets are sold out (whichever comes first). Raffle Tickets may be purchased in person at Fenway Park's Main Ticket Office on Yawkey Way and Brookline Ave. between 10 AM and 4 p.m. on weekdays and weekends when team is at home. In Person Raffle Tickets are also being sold in person at Fenway Park before and during home games, tours and other events. Raffle Tickets are also being sold in person at special kiosks in select Simon Malls in Massachusetts on designated Saturdays and Sundays from Noon till 5 p.m.. Schedule of Simon Malls dates is below or at www.redsoxfoundation.org. In addition, the Red Sox Foundation will be selling tickets in person at other locations in Massachusetts.
- Raffle Tickets may also be purchased ON LINE at www.redsox.com ONLY BY MASSACHUSETTS RESIDENTS who are 18 years or older through 11:59 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 or until the maximum 200,000 Tickets are sold out (whichever comes first). Due to legal restrictions, ONLY MASSACHUSETTS RESIDENTS 18 OR OLDER may purchase Tickets online. Any online Raffle Ticket purchases in violation of the Official Rules will be considered void and will NOT be eligible for Prizes. Tickets Purchased ON LINE are NOT transferable and can NOT be resold or given to others.
- Can I buy Tickets and mail them to someone? Or can the Red Sox or Red Sox Foundation or someone else send me Tickets via the US mail?
- No. Due to legal restrictions, Raffle Tickets may NOT be sent through the mail by the Red Sox Foundation or by individual entrants. Depositing Raffle Tickets in the US mails is a violation of federal law and may lead to criminal penalties.
- Is there a limit to the number of Raffle Tickets I can buy?
- No. As long as you are over 18 and qualify to purchase tickets under the Official Rules, you may buy as many as you would like.
- Can I get a discount if I buy a large number of Raffle Tickets?
- No. Due to legal restrictions, there are no discounts available.
- Can I buy Raffle Tickets and give them as gifts to other people including family members, friends, clients, employees?
- Yes but only if you purchase the tickets IN PERSON at Fenway Park, Simon Malls or at other IN PERSON locations in Massachusetts. That is because raffle tickets purchased IN PERSON MAY be given away. However, due to legal restrictions, tickets purchased ON LINE may NOT be transferred or given to others. Please note that when the purchaser of a ticket (or tickets) that were bought in person gives such tickets to others, the purchaser acknowledges that, when doing so, he/she gives up any claim he/she might otherwise have to the Prizes. The qualified holder of a valid ticket that was purchased in person shall be deemed the owner of that ticket. But due to legal restrictions, Tickets purchased ONLINE at www.redsox.com may NOT be given away or otherwise transferred to anyone, and only the qualified person whose credit card was used for the valid online purchase shall be deemed the owner. Whatever the method of purchase, Raffle Tickets may NOT be resold. Tickets purchased or transferred in violation of the Official Rules will be void and shall not be eligible for prizes. - Can I resell Raffle Tickets?
- No. Raffle Tickets may NOT be resold. Tickets purchased in person or online may not be re-sold to other parties and may not be given to others for resale. Any Tickets which are purchased or resold in violation of Official Rules shall be void.
- Why aren't Raffle Tickets for sale in NH, VT, CT, RI -- and/or other states?
- The Red Sox Foundation is a non-profit based in Massachusetts and the Raffle Drawing will take place in Massachusetts, so we are governed by our state’s laws. Other states have conflicting rules that govern raffles in their state. Due to legal restrictions, the charitable Raffle Tickets can NOT be sold online to anyone who does not reside in Massachusetts. We are deeply grateful for the loyal and generous support of Red Sox fans throughout New England and Red Sox Nation, and regret that we could not find a way to allow everyone to participate in online sales. However we note that fans who are 18 years and older from ANY STATE OR COUNTRY MAY purchase Raffle Tickets IN PERSON at Fenway Park, select Simon Malls, or other Massachusetts locations where the Red Sox Foundation has in-person sales kiosks open during the raffle period. Persons under the age of 18 may not legally buy raffle tickets. Any tickets purchased or transferred in violation of the Official Rules will be considered void and ineligible for prizes. Raffle is void where prohibited and other restrictions apply. (See Official Rules for more details.)
- Do you have to be a certain minimum age to buy a Raffle Ticket?

- If I am NOT a resident of Massachusetts can I buy Raffle Tickets ONLINE at redsox.com?
- No. Due to legal restrictions, online sales of Raffle Tickets are open only to legal residents of Massachusetts who are 18 years of age or older. If you are not a resident of Massachusetts over the age of 18, you may NOT buy Raffle Tickets on line. The ONLY venue for online Raffle Ticket purchases is www.redsox.com. Raffle Tickets purchased in contradiction to the Official Rules will be considered void and will not be eligible for Prizes.
- Can someone else buy Tickets for me at IN PERSON sales locations in Massachusetts?

All information needed on the stub MUST be completed at the time of purchase and the purchaser of the Tickets must sign his/her name to ALL TICKETS they buy. Raffle Tickets may not be resold. Please note: it is a federal offense to deposit Raffle Tickets in the mail. Raffle Tickets cannot be sent through the US mail. Raffle tickets purchased on line may NOT be given away or transferred.

- Do winners have to contact the Red Sox Foundation - or will they be notified directly?
- The Red Sox Foundation will attempt to contact the purchasers of each of the 10 winning Tickets ("potential winners") by mail, phone or e-mail immediately following the Drawing. However, whether or not they have been successfully contacted, each person with a winning Ticket must contact the Red Sox Foundation directly to present his/her Ticket for required authentication and inspection no later that 11:59 AM on Thursday, July 17, 2008 to be eligible to claim a prize. Between July 11, 2008 and 11:59 AM on July 17, 2008, each potential winners must either: 1) appear in person at 4 Yawkey Way, Boston, MA 02215, between the hours of 11 AM and 3 p.m. to present his/her winning Raffle Ticket or 2) send an e-mail to redsoxRaffle.com to make arrangements for inspection of his/her Ticket before 11:59 AM on July 17, 2008. - Potential winners must present their Tickets by 11:59 AM on July 17, 2008. If for any reason all requirements are not met with respect to a particular potential winner, or if the Red Sox Foundation is unable, for any reason, to identify or contact the holder of a winning Raffle Ticket, that potential winner's prize will be deemed forfeited and, at the sole discretion of the Red Sox Foundation, an alternate winner may be selected through random Drawing. The Red Sox Foundation's determination of the valid winners will be final.
- Can Raffle Tickets or certain Raffle Ticket purchases be deemed void?
- Yes. Any Tickets that appear to have been tampered with, stolen, lost, damaged, illegible, given away, re-sold or are no longer in the purchaser's possession will be deemed void. Any Raffle Tickets purchased by individuals under the age of 18 will be void. Tickets purchased online by persons who are not residents of Massachusetts will be deemed void. Entries or payments that are delayed, misdirected, undelivered, not fully captured, or garbled as a result of any failure or problem with the availability, functionality, operability or use of any network, server, ISP, website, internet connection, computer, telephone, cable or satellite modem or connection, hand held mobile device or any other computer equipment or connection, whether or not caused by site users, tampering, hacking, or by viruses, worms, or malfunctions affecting a network, server ISP or any equipment or programming used in or associated with the Raffle will be void. The Red Sox Foundation shall have final determination on void, ineligible and winning tickets.

- What about lost, damaged, stolen, illegible or missing Tickets?
- The Red Sox Foundation is not responsible for lost, damaged, stolen or illegible tickets or for problems with computers or printers. Entries which are stolen, lost, damaged, illegible or given away in contradiction of the Official Rules will be deemed void. No replacement Raffle Tickets will be issued.
- What if there is a dispute over who owns a winning Ticket?
- In the case of a Raffle Ticket that was purchased ON LINE at www.redsox.com, it will be assumed that the purchaser of the Ticket, as determined by credit card purchase records, is the lawful owner of that Ticket. In the case of a Raffle Ticket purchased in person at Fenway Park or other in-person sales venues, it will be assumed that the individual who is in possession of the Ticket is the lawful owner of that Ticket and that Ticket's winning number. The Red Sox Foundation will make final determination on validity and compliance with the Official Rules. Other restrictions apply, please see full Official Rules.
- When will the Prizes be awarded to the Winners?
- Prizes will be presented to the official winners at Fenway Park on Saturday, July 26, 2008, during special pre-game ceremonies immediately preceding the Red Sox game. (If for any reason that presentation cannot be held on July 26, 2008, then it shall be held at Fenway Park during the pre-game ceremonies on Sunday July 27, 2008.) Due to the short time frame between the Drawing and the Presentation of the prizes, at the Presentation, the Red Sox Foundation reserves the right to present winners with a World Series Ring that has not yet been personalized. In that case, the Winners must agree to return the ring to the Red Sox Foundation immediately after the presentation so they can be properly personalized as soon as possible at the Red Sox Foundation's expense and returned to the winners.
- Who is liable for federal state and local income taxes that may be incurred with the prizes?
- The winners are solely responsible for all federal, state and local income taxes that apply. The taxable value of the prize will be treated as ordinary income to the winner for federal and state income tax purposes, and each winner will be required by law to pre-pay a portion of the tax liability incurred in connection with his/her receipt of the prize before receiving it.
