DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has placed righthanded pitcher Jose Mesa on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 17 with a pulled right groin. To take Mesa's spot on the club's roster, the Tigers have purchased the contract of righthanded pitcher Aquilino Lopez from Triple A Toledo.

Mesa has appeared in four games for the Tigers this season, allowing six runs in 2.2 innings of work. Signed by Detroit as a free agent on December 15, 2006, Mesa has appeared in 970 games during his 19 seasons at the major league level.

Lopez has appeared in seven games with the Mud Hens this season, posting four saves as he has held the opposition scoreless in 6.1 innings of work. He is tied for the lead in the International League with four saves, while he is tied for second with seven appearances. Signed by the Tigers as a minor league free agent on February 6, Lopez saw major league action with the Toronto Blue Jays (2003-04), Colorado Rockies (2005) and Philadelphia Phillies (2005).

Additionally, the Tigers today announced the club has transferred lefthanded pitcher Edward Campusano from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list to create a spot on the team's 40-man roster for Lopez.
