Marlins to host Nationals for a three-game series

MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins are set to open a three-game homestand against the Washington Nationals beginning Monday, Sept. 10 at Dolphin Stadium. The brief homestand will include a recognition ceremony for Marlins third baseman Miguel Cabrera as the Marlins' Roberto Clemente Award Nominee.

In addition, several community and player appearances are scheduled including the annual visit to the International Kids Fund at Holtz Children's Hospital, special players' meet-and-greet and a swim with the dolphins session a the Miami Seaquarium. The short home series will also feature on-field check presentations from the Florida Marlins Community Foundation.

Fans are encouraged to take advantage of the various ticket offers including: The Miami Herald Two For Tuesday and the Marlins E-saver special online ticket offer on Wednesday.

Great seats are still available for all games during the Marlins' upcoming homestand, and individual game tickets can be purchased at the Dolphin Stadium Box Office, the Marlins en Miami Store in Coral Gables, online at www.floridamarlins.com or by calling 1-877-MARLINS.

DUGOUT BUDDIES: Every Monday through Thursday home game the Marlins will treat a local Little League team to watch batting practice live from the Marlins dugout. Little leaguers from the City of Hollywood Sunday Baseball League will have the opportunity to spend time observing how the Fish prepare for the upcoming game. GARAGE SALE: The Florida Marlins Community Foundation holds two garage sales each year, one at FanFest in February and one more during the season. The 2007 in-season Garage Sale will be Monday, September 10, 2007 at the Community Corner, section 149, from the time the gates open until the final out of the third inning. Many unique items are offered at each sale including game-used equipment.

JOSH JOHNSON MEET & GREET: Marlins pitcher Josh Johnson will be spending time with Sarah Aubrey, high bidder on the Josh Johnson tackle box during the Wives Grand Auction. The visit will take place during batting practice.

PARENT ACADEMY: Marlins President David Samson will be speaking to a group of parents, children, teachers and school administrators from Parent Academy, Carol City Elementary & Cutler Ridge Elementary at Sec. 228/230 at 5:30 p.m. Samson will discuss how to balance the professional life as a team president with some of his personal life and the relationship with his children.

ROBERTO CLEMTENTE AWARD PRESENTATION: Miguel Cabrera will be recognized as the Florida Marlins recipient of the 2007 Roberto Clemente Award, presented by Chevrolet. As the Club's recipient, he is eligible for the National 2007 Roberto Clemente Award, which is given annually to the Major League Baseball player who combines outstanding skills on the baseball field with devoted work in the community.

NIKE PLAQUE PRESENTATION: The Florida Marlins Community Affairs Department, along with coaches from the RBI League will be presenting NIKE with a plaque of appreciation for their dedication and support to the RBI program.

FSN FLORIDA HOME RUN CHALLENGE CHECK PRESENTATION: FSN Florida will present a check to the Florida Marlins Community Foundation for $15,000 and recognize the championship team, The Baseball City Hammerheads, from the Fifth Annual FSN Florida Home Run Challenge. Since its inception, FSN Florida has donated $59,800 from this popular event to the Cornerstones for Kids programs. FSN Florida and the Florida Marlins Community Foundation are making South Florida a better place to live for our youth.

MEET-GREET WITH CODY: Marlins outfielder Cody Ross will be spending time with the high bidder of the Cody Ross tackle box during the Wives Grand Auction. The visit will take place during batting practice.

LUNCH WITH MIKE JACOBS: Mike Jacobs will be having lunch with the high bidder of the Mike Jacobs tackle box during the Wives Grand Auction. The lunch will take place in the Marlins clubhouse at 12:30 p.m.

PHOTO WITH HANLEY: Hanley Ramirez will be meeting with the high bidder of the Hanley Ramirez tackle box during the Wives Grand Auction. The visit and photo opportunity will take place during batting practice.

9/11 REMEMBERANCE CEREMONY: The Florida Marlins will be holding a special moment of silence at exactly 9:11 p.m. in honor of the men and women who were affected by the September 11 attacks.

INTERNATIONAL KIDS FUND HOSPITAL VISIT: Miguel Cabrera and Rick VandenHurk will be visiting with kids at the International Kids Fund (IKF). The International Kids Fund is a program at Jackson Memorial Hospital that raises funds to treat children up to age 18 who have no other medical options in their countries. Many of the children are from Latin American countries, and their conditions are typically treatable.

CHILDREN'S FUND CHECK PRESENTATION: Nancy Olson, Executive Director of the Florida Marlins Community Foundation, and Rich Waltz, Florida Marlins play-by-play announcer, will present a check to Dr. Margaret Gorensek for $5,000 for her Children's Fund at Holy Cross Hospital. Dr. Gorensek is dedicated to helping children and families with HIV/AIDS. Thanks to the support like that of the Florida Marlins Community Foundation, Dr. Gorensek took sick children to camp for a week this past June. This is the second year that FMCF has made a donation to this cause. Thanks to Rich Waltz, FMCF learned about the work of Dr. Gorensek. Funding comes from the FSN Fantasy Auction.

CELEBRATION CLUB: Do you want to send a message during the game? Call 305-623-6497 to put a Happy Birthday, Happy Anniversary, or other special message on the Matrix Board during the sixth inning. One lucky fan will be featured as the Al's Florist and Gifts "Catch of the Day." Gift bags and roses are also available for pick-up at the Community Corner. Marriage proposals and gift bag deliveries by Billy the Marlin or the Mermaids can be arranged for an additional fee.

COMMUNITY CORNER: The Community Corner consists of two kiosks at section 149 - one for the Florida Marlins Community Foundation and one for the Community Affairs Department. This area is the headquarters for the Florida Marlins community programs. The Florida Marlins Community Foundation kiosk is staffed at every home game until the bottom of the third inning. Check out the nightly auction item, prize wheel, old media guides, Marlins photographs, 1997 Commemorative Patches and A-Z Books for Children. A special 50 - 50 raffle is held each Sunday.

'FISHBUGGY RAFFLE': The Big Bike Riders Association has teamed up with the Florida Marlins Community Foundation for the second consecutive year to offer a unique raffle item. Last year it was a customized Florida Marlins chopper bike. This season it's a customized golf cart with a Florida Marlins theme. Fans can see the "Fish Buggy" and purchase a $10 raffle ticket, which includes a future game ticket, at the Gate H Strike Zone on the weekends. Look for the "Fish Buggy" at Section 149 Community Corner on Weekdays. Five finalists will be chosen on Friday, September 21, 2007. The winner will be chosen from the finalists on Sunday, September 23, 2007 in a pre-game ceremony. Proceeds benefit the Florida Marlins Community Foundation.

DUNKIN' DONUTS: When the Marlins score six runs or more at home, fans can exchange their ticket stub within 24 hours of the game's start time for two free donuts and a medium iced tea at participating Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Treasure Coast Dunkin' Donuts locations.

MARLINS RADIO NETWORK: All 162 regular season games will be broadcast on WQAM 560 AM and the Marlins Radio Network in English and on WQBA 1140 AM in Spanish. The Marlins Radio Network consists of: WSWN 900 AM in Belle Glade, WELE 1380 AM in Daytona Beach, WEFL 760 AM in West Palm Beach, WFFG 1330 AM in Marathon, WKWF 1600 AM in Key West, WSTU 1450 AM in Stuart, WWCN 770 AM Fort Myers/Naples.

PUBLIX POWER ALLEY: Fans who purchase select featured products from Publix Supermarket can bring their proof of purchase to the stadium Box Office or Marlins en Miami store and receive a buy-one, get-one-free Club B ticket in select seating areas. Featured products include: Frito Lay, Gatorade, Oberto Jerky Snacks, Quaker Granola Bars, Rice-a- Roni, Tropicana and Twister. This ticket offer is valid for all Marlins Sunday through Thursday regular season home games.

PARKING AND GATE OPENING: Parking lots at Dolphin Stadium will open two hours prior to game time, and stadium gates will open one and a half hour prior to the game. Parking gates for all Friday home games will open at 4:30 p.m. Strike Zone opens at 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. on Sunday.
