Doug Melvin and his wife Ellen again make commitment to the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Milwauke07/08/2010 1:28 PM ET
MILWAUKEE, WI - Brewers Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Melvin along with his wife, Ellen, are once again committing to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness of Milwaukee. In 1991, Ellen Melvin lost her mother, Elsie Schultz, to breast cancer. The Melvin's fundraising efforts are done in her memory.
The Melvins plan to feature two in-game jersey raffles featuring framed, autographed, jerseys of Milwaukee Brewers players. The first raffle will take place this Sunday when the Brewers take on the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the second will take place on Friday, August 27. This Sunday, a framed Prince Fielder jersey will be raffled, and for the August event, the jersey will be from Rickie Weeks. Tickets are $5 each and will be available on the Field Level near Guest Relations.
Additionally, on Sunday, August 8, Doug Melvin will host "The Pink Tie Guy" event at Bacchus (925 E. Wells St. Milwaukee). Presented by Fields Land Rover Jaguar Volvo and Brewers Community Foundation, proceeds from the event will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Tickets are $1,000 per couple and include a cocktail reception attended by Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig, Doug and Ellen Melvin, and Brewers guests. The event will include a silent auction, and guests will be presented with a pink tie which has been custom designed exclusively for the Pink Tie Guys. A pink tie is not just a fashion statement - it's a commitment to step up to the plate in the fight against breast cancer! For more information, contact Brewers Community Foundation Executive Director Cecelia Gore at 414-902-4544.
Last year through jersey raffles and other special events, the Melvin's raised over $65,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation of Milwaukee.
