Ft. Myers, Fla. -- The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed first baseman Justin Morneau on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 7, with a concussion. Morneau suffered the injury in the 8th inning of the April 6th game at Seattle after being hit in the head with a pitch by Ron Villone. To replace Morneau on the roster, the Twins will recall third baseman Terry Tiffee from Rochester (AAA, International League) on Wednesday.

Morneau, 23, was batting .333 (4-12) with one rbi in three games for the Twins this season. He batted .250 (14-56) with six doubles and three rbi in 19 games this spring. Drafted by the Twins in the third round of the June, 1999 free agent draft, Morneau last season was fourth on the club in homers (19) and fifth in rbi (58) while playing in just 74 games.

Tiffee, 25, was batting .227 (5-22) with one double, one homer and two rbi in five games for the Rochester Red Wings this season. He batted .302 (16-53) with two doubles, one homer and three rbi in 20 games this spring. Drafted by the Twins in the 26th round of the June, 1999 free agent draft, Tiffee batted .273 (12-44) with four doubles, two homers and eight rbi in 17 games for the Twins last season.

Tiffee will be in uniform for Wednesday's game vs. the Detroit Tigers.
