Jeff Kent continued his career-long dominance of John Thomson with a fourth-inning two-run double and sixth-inning solo homer. Astros starter Tim Redding, who had posted a 10.57 ERA in his three previous starts, allowed one run on four hits in six innings.
May 8 vs. Houston
Andruw Jones' two-out solo homer off Ricky Stone enabled Atlanta to gain the thrilling extra-inning victory. The Braves outscored the Astros 3-1 in the final two regulation innings to force the extra frame.
May 9 vs. Houston
Orlando Palmeiro drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning to produce the decisive run in this contest, which was dominated by Andy Pettitte and Russ Ortiz. Both teams managed just three hits.
Aug. 3 at Houston
Roger Clemens tossed seven solid innings and helped Houston claim a 3-2 victory that snapped Atlanta's five-game winning streak. Brad Lidge earned his 12th save.
Aug. 4 at Houston
John Thomson, who hadn't beaten the Astros since 2002, held Houston to two runs on four hits over seven innings in the Braves' three-run win.
Aug. 5 at Houston
Marcus Giles' ninth-inning sacrifice fly enabled the Braves to claim a 6-5 win and the series victory. Astros starter Darren Oliver left after the first inning with a stiff shoulder.
