Catalanotto wins Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week

Toronto Blue Jays left fielder Frank Catalanotto has been named Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week for the period ending October 2nd. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Catalanotto batted .500 in seven games last week while leading the league with 15 hits, 15 RBI, a .967 slugging percentage and 29 total bases. The left fielder also posted a .516 on-base percentage with four runs scored and two triples. Catalanotto followed a four-hit performance against Boston on Tuesday night with a double, triple, home run, three RBI and two runs scored on Wednesday. Catalanotto drove in at least one run in his final six games, including a stretch of four straight three-RBI games from Wednesday to Saturday. This is Catalanotto's second career A.L. Player of the Week Award, the first coming this season (7/25).

Other candidates considered were Boston's Manny Ramirez (.409, 4 HR, 9 RBI), Melvin Mora (.333, 4 HR, 9 RBI) of the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago's Paul Konerko (.526, 2 HR, 5 RBI). Pitchers considered for the award were Angels right-hander John Lackey (2-0, 1.64, 11 IP), Randy Johnson (2-0, 2.03, 13.1 K) of the New York Yankees and Minnesota's Johan Santana (2-0, 1.29, 14 IP).

As part of the award, Bank of America will make a $1,000 donation to the Little League Urban Initiative on behalf of Catalanotto.
