Florida hurler Josh Johnson voted National League Rookie of the Month for May

Florida Marlins starting pitcher Josh Johnson, who compiled the lowest ERA (1.96) among rookie starting pitchers, has been voted National League Rookie of the Month.

Johnson's 31 strikeouts during the month also led all rookie pitchers. He started six games for the Marlins and finished with a 3-1 record. Josh pitched 36.2 innings and allowed 26 hits, 11 runs, eight earned, one home run and 11 walks. The right-handed pitcher struck out a career-high eight batters on May 26th vs. New York Mets. The rookie lowered his ERA to 2.42 this season, lowest among Marlins starters.

Other rookies receiving votes included his Florida teammate Dan Uggla (.356, 3 HR, 18 RBI); Arizona's Conor Jackson (.313, 3 HR, 19 RBI); Andre Ethier (.324, 4 HR, 13 RBI) of the Dodgers; Milwaukee's Prince Fielder (.297, 4 HR, 17 RBI); and Ryan Zimmerman (.287, 5 HR, 15 RBI) of the Nationals.

Josh Johnson will receive a specially-designed award for being voted National League Rookie of the Month for May.
