07/31/2006 11:41 AM ET
MLB Advanced Media, LP (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet company of Major League Baseball, and Tasuke Co., Ltd., a leading provider of games, social networking services and other content for mobile phones, announced today a licensing agreement for a MLB-branded mobile game in Japan.

MLBAM and Tasuke have entered into a licensing agreement under which Tasuke will develop and publish an MLB-branded game on service carriers in the Japanese market for the remainder of the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

"Baseball has a huge following in Japan," said Aco Ebata, CEO of Tasuke, "one that aspires to the level of greatness that Major League Baseball exemplifies. A significant number of Japanese baseball players have found success in Major League Baseball, as the culmination of careers that began in Japan's high school baseball leagues (whose national tournament is known as Koshien), and continued with the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) league. Tasuke, which already has produced extremely successful mobile phone baseball games featuring Koshien and NPB teams and players, is proud to complete its product line with a new game featuring MLB content. Now, consumers can emulate the success of their favorite Japanese players' careers by playing high school baseball and NPB games on their mobile phones, and then entering the big leagues by playing Tasuke's upcoming MLB game."

"We are very excited to partner with Tasuke for MLBAM's first interactive mobile Major League Baseball simulation game in the Japanese Market," said Alex Pigeon, MLBAM's director of international business development. "Fans who pay a monthly subscription fee will be able to participate in a networked head-to-head baseball game with full rosters of MLB players and up-to-date statistics."
