Atlanta's Teixeira voted Sharp Presents the National League Player of the Month for August

Mark Teixeira of the Braves has been named the Sharp Presents the National League Player of the Month for August.

The switch-hitting slugger hit .315 (35-111), recorded 32 RBI and scored 20 runs, while posting 13 multi-hit games during the month. His 32 RBI led the N.L. and he tied for the league lead in home runs with 10. The 27-year old first baseman also recorded multi-home run games in consecutive games, on August 19th vs. Arizona and August 20th at Cincinnati. The former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket was acquired by the Braves from the Texas Rangers and he homered and recorded four RBI in his debut on August 1st vs. Houston.

Other players receiving votes were David Wright (.394, 6 HR, 21 RBI) and Carlos Beltran (.338, 6 HR, 23 RBI) of the Mets; Pittsburgh's Freddy Sanchez (.374, 5 HR, 29 RBI); Houston's Lance Berkman (.345, 9 HR, 20 RBI); Philadelphia's Jayson Werth (.414, 3 HR, 19 RBI) and Pat Burrell (.290, 10 HR, 25 RBI); and Cincinnati's Jeff Keppinger (.393, 3 HR, 12 RBI).

For setting the highest definition of excellence, Sharp, the presenting sponsor of the National League Player of the Month Award presents Mark Teixeira with a LC-52D92U 52" Sharp AQUOS LCD-TV. Sharp AQUOS is the "Official High-Definition Television of Major League Baseball." Mark Teixeira also will receive a specially designed trophy to mark his achievement.
