Fans can relive Phillies' title with DVD
11/17/2008 10:04 AM ET
PHILADELPHIA -- After waiting 28 years to watch their team win a second World Series title, Phillies fans are about to get the chance to celebrate as often as they wish.

With the scheduled Nov. 25 nationwide release of the official "2008 World Series Film: Phillies vs. Rays" -- the ultimate retrospective of the Philadelphia Phillies' quest to win this year's World Series championship -- fans can relive the experiences of the first major sports championship in the city since 1983.

Narrated by Academy Award nominee Terrance Howard, this collectible DVD and Blu-Ray offers extensive coverage of the 2008 postseason, including the clinching final outs, World Series Game 5 ninth inning and the World Series trophy presentation. Fans can catch a glimpse inside the clubhouse through in-depth, one-on-one interviews with Phillies players, coaches and team personnel.

A world premiere is scheduled at five Philadelphia-area locations on Nov. 24.

"Everything we did this season was to get to this point," Shane Victorino said while champagne flowed freely throughout the clubhouse. "This feeling of winning everything makes everything worth it. I will never forget this."

The more than 3 1/2 million fans who spilled through Citizens Bank Park's gates this season, and countless more who watched the games on the internet, television or listened on the radio, will want to remember, too.

The DVD was produced by Major League Baseball Productions and distributed by Shout! Factory. The Blu-ray edition, in high definition for the first time, will be released Dec. 16. Pre-orders are available now at MLB.com. The cost is $19.99 for the DVD and $29.99 for Blu-ray.

If obtaining a copy isn't enough, fans are invited to attend the premiere, for a first look at the movie, a glimpse of the World Series trophy or just another chance to celebrate with other Phillies fans and representatives.

A world premiere is scheduled for Nov. 24 at The Bridge Cinema De Lux in Philadelphia. Walking the red carpet will be Hall of Fame broadcaster Harry Kalas, hitting coach Milt Thompson and the Phille Phanatic.

Tickets can be purchased for the red-carpet event only at phillies.com. The cost is $25 for the red carpet event, though each purchase includes a DVD copy.

For $10 -- which doesn't include a DVD copy -- fans can attend a screening at one of four other area locations that night, in Bala Cynwyd, Pa. (Bala Theatre 3), Landsdale, Pa., (Montgomeryville 10), Wayne, Pa., (Anthony Wayne Theatre 5) and Vorhees, N.J., (Showcase at The Ritz Center 16).
