Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals named the National League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols, who recorded his 1,000th career RBI last week, has been named National League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America for the period ending April 26th. Last week, Pujols led the league with 11 RBI, ranked third with a .950 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base percentage, tied for third with three home runs and posted a .450 (9-20) batting average. Pujols also stole a base in three straight contests from April 22nd-24th, marking the first time he has ever swiped bases in back-to-back games. On April 23rd vs. the New York Mets, the seven-time All-Star hit two home runs, collected three hits, drove in three runs and scored four times, helping St. Louis complete a three-game sweep. On April 25th vs. the Cubs, the 29-year-old connected for his second grand slam of 2009, giving him 1,002 career RBI and making him the 23rd active player to reach the milestone. Pujols (.343, N.L. bests: 20 R, 7 HR, 25 RBI, 48 TB, .727 SLG, 2 GS), one of the official spokespeople for MLB's All-Star FanFest from July 10th-14th in St. Louis, already ranks fifth on the Cardinals' all-time RBI list.
