Jorge Cantu of the Florida Marlins named the National League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America

Florida Marlins first baseman Jorge Cantu, who tied for the Major League lead with 14 RBI, has been named National League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America for the period ending May 3. Last week, Cantu led the National League with 14 RBI and 22 total bases and tied for the N.L.'s top mark with four home runs. The 27-year-old hit .346 (9-26) with a double and six runs scored while recording a slugging percentage of .846 and an on-base percentage of .433. On April 28 at New York, Jorge connected for two home runs for the seventh time in his career. The five RBI tied a career-best (last done on 7/21/06 vs. Baltimore as a member of the Rays). Cantu went deep again on April 29 at New York and April 30 at Chicago for a three-game homer streak. During the week, Cantu recorded three multi-RBI games. He represented Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic in both 2006 and 2009.
