Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Mark Reynolds, who has collected at least one RBI in 11 of his last 13 games, has been named National League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America for the period ending August 9th. In seven games last week, Reynolds hit .448 (13-29) with Major League-best totals of six home runs and 32 total bases while also compiling 10 RBI and a stolen base. The 16th-round selection in the 2004 First-Year Player Draft also posted a 1.103 slugging percentage and a .515 on-base percentage. On August 3rd, Reynolds celebrated his 26th birthday by clubbing a pair of home runs for three RBI en route to a 6-5 victory over the New York Mets at Citi Field. The multi-homer game was his third of the season and the seventh of his career. His 36 homers entering play today already rank fourth for a single season in Arizona history (Luis Gonzalez, 57 in 2001; Jay Bell, 38 in 1999; and Troy Glaus, 37 in 2005) and tie him with Albert Pujols for the Major League high. Mark is currently hitting .290 on the season and also leads the Diamondbacks with 20 stolen bases, 75 runs scored and 80 RBI. This is Mark's second career weekly award, both achieved this season (previous: 6/14/09).

Other nominees this past week included Mark's D-backs' teammate Ryan Roberts (.471, 3 HR, 4 RBI); Pujols (.550, 2 HR, 8 RBI) of the Cardinals; Javier Vazquez (2-0, 1.80 ERA, 13 SO) of the Braves; Kosuke Fukudome (.348, 2 HR, 5 RBI) of the Cubs; Cincinnati's Wladimir Balentien (.471, 1 HR, 5 RBI); Colorado's Jason Hammel (2-0, 10 SO); Chris Coghlan (.517, 15 H, 5 RBI) of the Marlins; Houston's Jose Valverde (2.70 ERA, 3 SV, 4 SO); Ryan Braun (.433, 1 HR, 9 RBI) of the Brewers; Tim Redding (1.23 ERA, 4 SO) of the Mets; Philadelphia's Cliff Lee (1-0, 1.29 ERA, 9 SO); San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval (.458, 5 RBI); and Ryan Zimmerman (.522, 4 HR, 7 RBI) of the Washington Nationals, who are currently on an eight-game winning streak. Tourneau, the world's largest watch store, will award Mark Reynolds with a luxury Swiss Timepiece, suitably engraved, in recognition of his accomplishment as the National League Player of the Week presented by Bank of America.
