Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim first baseman Kendry Morales has been named the Sharp Presents the American League Player of the Month for August. This marks Kendry's first career monthly award.

In 28 games last month, Morales batted .385 (42-109) with eight doubles and 10 home runs and tied for a Major League-best 33 RBI with the Sharp Presents the National League Player of the Month winner for August, Ryan Howard. The 26-year-old posted a .409 on-base percentage and a Major League-leading .734 slugging percentage. Kendry's RBI total (33) last month set a new club record for August, previously held by Bobby Bonds, who collected 31 RBI in August 1977. On August 2nd, the Cuba native collected a new career-high six RBI on two three-run home runs in a 13-4 win over the Minnesota Twins. On August 28th, the slugger matched the career-high six RBI as he went five-for-five and knocked two home runs to mark his third multi-homer game of the month. He collected four extra-base hits in the contest, tying a club record and becoming the eighth Angel ever to accomplish the feat, the first since Juan Rivera on September 18, 2008. His second homer of the game on August 28th was a go-ahead, three-run shot in the seventh inning, giving Morales 29 on the year, which breaks the club's single-season home run record for a switch-hitter, previously held by Chili Davis in 1996. Morales, who leads the Majors with 45 RBI since the All-Star break, is currently hitting .313 with 30 home runs and 94 RBI. Morales is the second consecutive Angel to win monthly honors this season, succeeding teammate Bobby Abreu, who took the honors for the first place Angels in July.

The runner-up was Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer, who led the A.L. with a .391 (45-115) batting average while also collecting eight home runs and 23 RBI. Also receiving votes were New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who led the A.L. with 46 hits and the Majors with 27 runs scored, and Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Carlos Peña, who led the Majors with 12 home runs last month.
