Mark Reynolds of the Arizona Diamondbacks named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week

Mark Reynolds of the Arizona Diamondbacks has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for the period of April 19-25, 2010. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect Bank of America's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Reynolds had a Major League-best 11 RBI last week, while clubbing three home runs and hitting .421 (8-19). The 26-year-old also posted a .500 on-base percentage and slugged 1.000. Reynolds hit safely in all five of the games he played this week, including two multi-hit performances. On Sunday, the right-handed slugger hit a home run and drove-in four, including the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning, en-route to an 8-6 victory over the Phillies. Reynolds is currently tied with Florida's Jorge Cantu, Milwaukee's Ryan Braun, and Matt Kemp of the Dodgers for the NL lead with 20 RBI on the season. Mark's 96 career homers lead all NL third baseman since making his Major League debut with Arizona on May 16, 2007 (David Wright of the Mets ranks second with 72). This is Reynolds' third career weekly award, the most recent being August 10, 2009.

Other nominees this past week included Ryan Theriot (.500, 6 RBI, 14 H, .548 OBP), Marlon Byrd (.500, 5 RBI, 13 H, .517 OBP) and Geovany Soto (.467, .667 SLG, .636 OBP) of the Cubs; Colby Rasmus (.474, 2 HR, 1.053 SLG) and Brad Penny (2-0, 1.23 ERA, 7 SO) of the Cardinals; Houston's Michael Bourn (.316, 7 R, 7 SB, .519 OBP) and Matt Lindstrom (2.25 ERA, 4 SV); Reynolds' Arizona teammate Kelly Johnson (.375, 4 HR, 7 RBI, 1.042 SLG); San Diego's Adrian Gonzalez (.273, 4 HR, 9 RBI); Jon Niese (0-0, 0.82 ERA, 11.0 IP, 13 SO) and Mike Pelfrey (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 SO) of the Mets; Colorado's Jorge De La Rosa (2-0, 5.40 ERA, 10.0 IP, 12 SO); and Philadelphia's Roy Halladay (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 9.0 IP, 7 SO).
