Detroit Tigers outfielder Brennan Boesch has been voted the June recipient of the Gillette presents American League Rookie of the Month Award. Boesch joins Jason Heyward of the Braves as the only rookies in 2010 to win the award in consecutive months. Prior to this season, it was last accomplished by Milwaukee's Ryan Braun in 2007 (June, July).

Boesch led all American League rookies with eight home runs, 23 RBI, 35 hits and 17 runs scored. The 25- year-old batted .337 (35-for-104) with four doubles and a triple while slugging .625 with a .400 on-base percentage. Brennan hit safely in 21 of 27 contests during the month, and hit .480 (12-for-25) during a sevengame hitting streak from June 2nd-9th. The University of California-Berkeley product collected 11 multi-hit games, including three three-hit games and eight two-hit contests. On June 16th versus Washington, Boesch matched a career-high with four RBI while going 3-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Brennan, who was selected by the Tigers in the third round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, leads all Major League rookies with 46 RBI and 31 extra-base hits this season. He is also tied for the lead with 12 home runs. The 46 RBI and 31 extra-base hits mark the most by a Tigers player in his first 60 career games since at least 1952, while his 12 home runs are tied for the most along with Jason Thompson (1976), Gabe Kapler (1999) and Matt Joyce (2008).

The only other rookie to receive votes was Cleveland Indians catcher Carlos Santana (.345, 4 HR, 15 RBI, 9 2B).

Boesch will receive a specially designed trophy, suitably engraved, to commemorate his Rookie of the Month performance.
