Delta joins Mets as newest signature partner at Citi Field09/15/2008 4:48 PM ET
FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The New York Mets and Delta (NYSE: DAL) today announced a multi-year marketing and promotional partnership in which the airline becomes the Mets' second Signature Partner at Citi Field, the new Mets world-class home, opening in Spring 2009.
As the Official Airline of the Mets and the only airline to offer customers the most flights to more destinations from New York City's preferred airports - John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport and LaGuardia Airport - the partnership reinforces the airline's growing presence and longterm commitment to New York.
Delta's signature presence at Citi Field will be naming rights to the "Delta Sky360 Club," the exclusive 22,500-square foot Delta-branded club space at Citi Field. Located directly behind the 1,600 seats closest to home plate on the Sterling Level, the "Delta Sky360 Club" will provide guests visiting Citi Field a unique opportunity to sample elements of the Delta brand and experience. The "Delta Sky360 Club" will include a distinctive menu developed by Danny Meyer's renowned Union Square Hospitality Group. As part of the new agreement, Delta also will have extensive in-park branding and significant media presence on SNY, the official television home of the Mets.
"As the Official Airline of the Mets, this new ballpark offers us a unique opportunity to take our relationship with the team and its loyal fans to the next level, bringing the distinctively Delta brand and experience to life for baseball fans visiting the 'Delta Sky360 Club,' which will offer some of the best seats in the house - right behind home plate," said Tim Mapes, Vice President, Marketing, Delta. "This latest commitment to the Mets, an organization that is an integral part of the cultural fabric of the City, is yet another way Delta is demonstrating our ongoing commitment to New York travelers."
"We are thrilled to expand our partnership with Delta at Citi Field. Delta's ongoing communication to its passengers traveling around the country and into and out of New York will provide new opportunities to engage fans," said Dave Howard, Executive Vice President, Business Operations, New York Mets. "Through significant presence at Delta's international gateway at JFK and LaGuardia Airports, the Mets and Delta together can build and enhance each others' brand experiences."
The comprehensive set of rights and benefits will feature Delta branding, including outfield wall signage, home plate rotational signage, and identification throughout the concourses. The Mets will incorporate Delta into its marketing and media assets, including Mets publications and in-game programming features, the opportunity to host a Delta promotional day at Citi Field, and rights to the use of the Mets logo for promotions and sweepstakes.
Delta's promotional rights will extend to the Mets' minor league affiliates at Tradition Field (Port St. Lucie, Fla., home of Mets Spring Training and the St. Lucie Mets) and KeySpan Park (Coney Island, N.Y., home of the Brooklyn Cyclones).
The Mets' and Delta's longterm relationship began in the early 1990's when the airline first provided the team's charter service, and has continued throughout the last decade with Delta serving as the Mets' Official Airline. Delta AirElite also serves as the Official Private Jet Carrier of the Mets.
As the Mets second Signature Partner, Delta joins a select roster of blue-chip brands to recently sign with the Mets. In November, 2006, the Mets and Citi signed an unprecedented, 20-year multifaceted partnership that includes the naming rights for Citi Field; in June, 2007, the Mets and ARAMARK announced a landmark 30-year alliance for the food and beverage provider to serve as exclusive concessionaire managing all concessions, retail stores, kiosks, as well as luxury suites, clubs, and a specialty restaurant for Citi Field; and this past March, Anheuser-Busch Companies signed on as the first Signature Partner at Citi Field.
The Mets, in conjunction with their construction partners Hunt-Bovis and HOK, began construction of the 42,000-capacity Citi Field in 2006 in the outfield parking lot between Shea Stadium and 126th Street. Citi Field will open in Spring 2009.
