SAN FRANCISCO -- The Oakland A's went 2-for-3 for June in the monthly awards Major League Baseball gives out to the top players in each league. Mark Mulder was named the American League Pitcher of the Month and shortstop Bobby Crosby won AL Rookie of the Month as determined by a vote of writers and broadcasters. Both players didn't find out about the honors until told by a reporter after Saturday's 6-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. "Really? Cool," Crosby said, and he was echoed almost verbatim moments later by Mulder. "That's nice a honor to have," Crosby said. "The first two months I definitely didn't deserve the Rookie of the Month, but I'm starting to pick up now." This is Mulder's third Pitcher of the Month award; he also won in July 2001 and June 2002. Perhaps that experience helps explain why he was able to fake indignation at the hardware handed out for the honor, a nice etched glass trophy. "You'd think you get a car," Mulder said. "You get June Pitcher of the Month and you think you'd get a watch and a car."
