Update on Juan Encarnacion's injury

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Juan Encarnacion suffered multiple fractures of his left eye socket and a serious eye injury after being struck by a foul ball last night.

Encarnacion has been hospitalized for continued observation, evaluation and treatment. He will be re-evaluated on a daily basis to continue to assess the severity of his eye injury.

Encarnacion will miss the remainder of 2007 season due to his injury and his long-term prognosis is undetermined at this time.
