Busch Stadium security policy changes for All-Star events
07/09/2009 5:36 PM ET

Major League Baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals want to make fans aware of some important Security policies and procedures that will be modified to accommodate the special security needs during the various All-Star Events. The main policies that are affected are gate opening times, bag inspection procedures, exit / re-entry policy and the club's no-smoking policy. Fans may review these guidelines on the Cardinals website (

    Gate Opening Times
  • Busch Stadium gates will open to the public at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday for the 1:00 p.m. start of the XM All-Star Futures Game.
  • All gates will open at 4:00 p.m. on Monday for the Gatorade All-Star Workout Day and the State Farm Home Run Derby.
  • For the 80th All-Star Game on Tuesday, gates will open at 3:15 p.m.
    Bag Inspections Policy
  • The standard game-day bag inspection policies for Busch Stadium will be in effect on Sunday and Monday.
  • For the All-Star Game Tuesday, coupled with the visit by the President, all guests entering the stadium will be required to pass through a magnetometer.
  • No bottles of any kind (including water bottles) will be allowed into the building and no coolers of any kind will be allowed in the building.
  • A good rule of thumb for Tuesday's All-Star Game is the TSA flight boarding rules; if you cannot bring it onto a plane you will not be allowed to bring it into the stadium. Visit the TSA website at for a list of prohibited items. Any items surrendered at the gates will not be returned.
  • Bags will be allowed that meet Major League Baseball's standard size restriction (16"x16"x8"), but all bags will be inspected.
  • Fans will be permitted to bring small personal cameras, but they will be subject to inspection. No professional-sized photography equipment will be allowed except for members of the media with proper MLB All-Star credentials.
  • Please minimize items you bring into the stadium to speed up the inspection process.
  • Expect long lines upon entry and allow yourself plenty of time to go through the inspection process.
  • As a reminder, gates open at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, almost four hours prior to the start of the pre-game ceremonies at 7:00 p.m.
    Exit/Re-entry Policy
  • One of the more significant changes in Busch Stadium Policy is the Exit/Re-entry Policy. MLB does not allow re-entry once you leave the stadium. No pass-outs will be allowed for any reasons - including smoking.
    No Smoking Policy
  • During the All-Star events, Busch Stadium will maintain the Smoke-Free Building status of Busch Stadium. Given the no re-entry policy, we will be unable to allow our guests to leave to smoke and re-enter the stadium. We ask for the cooperation of all our guests in this important part of our overall security plan for All-Star events.
