Jesse Mendoza of the Bronx became the first person to catch a home run on the new Party City Deck at Citi Field. Although his fellow Transport Local Union 100 members all told him to throw the ball back, he never intended to, despite it being hit by former Met and current San Francisco Giants outfielder Angel Pagan.
Mendoza has caught a couple foul balls at other MLB games, but this marked his first home run. Jesse is hoping to get the ball signed by Pagan, and also aims to become the first person to catch a Mets home run on the Party City Deck.
During the offseason, the Mets moved in the fences. Had Pagan hit that ball in the same spot last year, it would've been just another 400-foot double, but he was the first to take advantage of the new seats out in left.
