Royals fan celebrates 100th birthday at the ballpark

In the middle of the first inning on Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium, the crowd serenaded 100-year-old Royals fan Virginia Bowler with a rendition of "Happy Birthday."

Bowler was born in Kansas City and has lived in the area her whole life, listening to or watching baseball since the Athletics played at Municipal Stadium.

“The stadium has changed over the years, but it is beautiful and I love the outfield area,” said Bowler, who brought her grandchildren to games for 39 years.

“She used to sneak peanuts in so she wouldn’t have to buy them at the stadium,” said one of her 13 grandchildren.

Bowler's adopted family from Ireland was also on hand singing her praises before the special day ended with a Royals win.
