Do you have a question for Southpaw?
E-mail Southpaw your question. Check back often, because Southpaw may answer your question online! Make sure to include your name and hometown.
Why are you called Southpaw?
Southpaw is a nickname for a left-handed pitcher, but since I work on the South Side, people started calling me that - and it stuck!
What exactly are you?
Hahaha. That's a funny question. Some people think I'm an alligator, frog or even a dirty sock! Those are all really silly, but I'm none of those. I'm just a green dude that loves the Chicago White Sox.
Was that really you at the Presidential Inaugural Parade in January 2009?
YES! It was me! I was selected by huge White Sox fan President Obama to participate in the historic parade in Washington D.C. It was truly amazing. For more information check out this article »
What do you like most about U.S. Cellular Field?
The fans! They've been so friendly since I made my Major League debut on June 13, 2004. I love getting out visiting with kids and families at the ballpark.
Who is your favorite White Sox player?
I like the whole team, of course! Ozzie and I get along really well. He treats me like one of the guys!
Do you only work at U.S. Cellular Field?
I work every home game at U.S. Cellular Field, but I also do community appearances at hospitals, store openings and parades around the Chicagoland area. I also take requests for private appearances like birthday parties and weddings.*
What is your favorite food?
I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables to stay in shape, but I think all of the food at U.S. Cellular Field is great! I get weak in the knees for Vienna Beef hot dogs - the official hot dog of the Chicago White Sox!"
What is your favorite TV show?
I like to watch White Sox games when they're on the road, but besides that I don't watch much television. I like to be outside, enjoying the outdoors when I'm not at U.S. Cellular Field.
What was it like to be at the 2008 All-Star Game in New York?
I love going to the MLB All-Star game each year. The best part is that I get to hang out with my mascot friends from the other baseball teams. This past All-Star Break was amazing. It was the last year of the historic Yankee Stadium, so it was cool to see where some of Major League Baseball's greatest moments took place. While I thought Yankee Stadium was cool, it doesn't compare to U.S. Cellular Field. I love my ballpark. Besides, Chicago is much more fun than New York.
Did you get along with all of the other mascots at the All-Star Game?
All of the other mascots are my buddies. We e-mail quite a bit during the year. Anyone can e-mail me at Southpaw@whitesox.mlb.com.
How can people have Southpaw attend their birthday parties, parades, little league games, store openings and other events?
Southpaw loves to entertain and attend activities of every kind! Anyone can call 312-674-5312, e-mail Southpaw@whitesox.mlb.com or book Southpaw for an appearance online. Thanks, and I hope to see you all soon!
