Taking the Bus to Comerica Park

The bus is an economical, convenient way to get to Comerica Park.

  • Taking the Bus to the Ballpark

    For just $3 round trip, the SMART or DDOT bus can take you to Tiger games!

    Check to see if there is a bus near you - go to Google.com/transit and type in your starting location, Comerica Park, and the time you want to arrive. Easy as that!

    Tips - You may want to drive to a nearby shopping center or other parking lot and hop on the bus there. Also, remember to check Google transit for the time of your return bus options.

    Here are a few examples:

    From southeast Oakland County, take the SMART Woodward bus #450 or 460 from Northwood Shopping Center on Woodward, just south of 13 Mile.
    • For Friday's 1pm game (or any weekday afternoon game), get on the 11:55am bus.
    • For Friday's 7pm game (or any weekday evening game), get on the 5:56pm bus.
    • For Saturday's 4pm game, take the 2:56pm bus.
    • For Sunday's 8pm game, you can take the 6:41pm bus.
    From the Dearborn area, take the SMART Michigan bus #200 from Fairlane Town Center. Ride to the Rosa Parks Transit Center, then walk or take the People Mover to the ballpark.
    • For Friday's 1pm game (or any weekday afternoon game), get on the 12:13pm bus.
    • For Friday's 7pm game (or any weekday evening game), get on the 5:54pm bus.
      - Note - the last bus back to Fairlane leaves the Rosa Parks Transit Center at 10:40pm
    • For Saturday's 4pm game, take the 3:15pm bus.
      - Last bus Saturday night leaves at 11:05pm.
    • For Sunday's 8pm game, you can take the 6:32pm bus (which arrives downtown at 7pm) or the 7:32pm bus (which arrives downtown at 8pm).
      - Note - the last Sunday night bus leaves at 10:26pm.
    Another option is the SMART Gratiot bus #560 from the Roseville Plaza at 12 Mile and Gratiot. Ride to the Rosa Parks Transit Center, then walk or take the People Mover to the ballpark.
    • For Friday's 1pm game (or any weekday afternoon game), get on the 11:56am bus.
    • For Friday's 7pm game (or any weekday evening game), get on the 5:47pm bus.
    • For Saturday's 4pm game, take the 2:52pm bus.
    • (While you can take the 6:45pm bus to Sunday's 8pm game, the last return bus leaves downtown at 9:36pm.)

    Tips from Transportation Riders United (TRU)

    1) Figure out what bus route will take you to your destination.
    • Visit www.Google.com/transit - Enter your starting and ending locations and when you need to depart or arrive, and it will give you bus options for your travel.
    • For routes within Detroit, use DDOT (the Detroit Department of Transportation):
      • Visit www.DetroitMi.gov/DDOT, call 313-933-1300, or pick up system maps, route maps and schedules from their main office at 1301 E. Warren (just east of I-75).
    • For suburb-to-suburb or suburb-to-city routes, use SMART:
      • Visit www.SMARTbus.org for a full system map, route maps and schedules.
      • You can also call SMART toll-free at 866-962-5515 during regular business hours.
      • SMART bus maps may be picked up at their office in the lobby of the Buhl Building (535 Griswold in downtown Detroit).
    2) Go to the bus stop along your route.
    • Most DDOT buses pick up at any marked bus stop. For SMART express buses, make sure the schedule lists that stop.
    • If you need to drive to a bus stop (for example if you live outside of the SMART service area), there is parking available at mall stops and designated Park&Ride lots.
    • Arrive 3-5 minutes prior to the scheduled bus arrival.
    3) To board the bus:
    • Identify the bus you want. Some streets have several bus routes. The bus route number and name is displayed above the windshield.
      • DDOT buses are white with green and yellow and use two-digit route numbers.
      • SMART buses are white with red and orange and use three-digit route numbers.
    • Signal the bus (like hailing a taxi) to ensure the driver sees you.
    • As you step onto the bus, you can ask the bus driver to confirm that they go to your destination.
    • Pay the fare with exact change, if possible. The fare box accepts bills and coins like a vending machine and does not give change.
      • One-way adult fare for most routes on both systems is currently $1.50.
      • Express or Park & Ride routes cost $2.00.
      • To transfer between buses, pay 25-cents when you board your first bus and request a transfer from the driver. Transfers from either system are usable on both.
    4) Take a seat and enjoy your ride.
    • Note the front seats are for seniors, people with disabilities or mothers with infant children.
    • You can use your ride to read, do work, listen to music or podcasts with headphones, talk to people around you, or just relax and watch your surroundings.
    5) To depart the bus, signal for your stop when approximately one block away. Pull the cord along the windows so that the bell "dings" and the "stop requested" sign lights up.
    • You can ask the driver to point out where to catch the return bus.

    If you plan to ride regularly, buy monthly or pre-paid passes which save money and are easier to carry.
