When I was young, all I wanted to do was be a catcher. Then I decided not to wear a mask during a practice and got a ball to the nose. Since then, I’ve kept my distance from behind the plate and admire those who don the tools of ignorance from afar.
With that said, I’ve always wondered what it looks like from their point of view to catch a game. Thanks to the South Carolina Gamecocks, I don’t have to wonder anymore. Gamecocks catcher Grayson Greiner recently wore a video camera on his mask during his team’s game against Wofford. One can experience the calling of the game, the signs given to one’s teammates and even catch a few fastballs, all without having to worry about taking one on the nose!
