R.A. Dickey Receives Honorary Degree

Friday, May 17, 2013 8:28 AM

On top of being a knuckleballer and an avid Star Wars fan, R.A. Dickey is also a very intelligent individual and a devout Christian. This latter combination is one of the reasons that the University of Toronto proudly entitled Dickey with an honorary degree on Monday. Specifically, the Blue Jays pitcher was awarded an honorary doctorate of “Sacred Letters” from Wycliffe College, U of T’s Anglican theological school.

Without a doubt, R.A. Dickey deserves this as he is an inspiration both on and off the field. Peter Patterson, who introduced Dickey, commended him as “the fluent, thoughtful voice in the media with perspective well beyond the arena in which he performs so well.” That to me, is an understatement, as Dickey is an incredible person and I hope someday to be half the person he is as I proceed through life.

Congratulations, R.A., on this honorary degree and all of your accomplishments. Comments
