Padres Honor Mariano Rivera

Saturday, August 3, 2013 2:57 PM

When the San Diego Padres and New York Yankees met in the 1998 World Series, Trevor Hoffman and Mariano Rivera had 277 career saves between them.

Nearly 1,000 saves later, the two greatest closers of all-time met at Petco Park to celebrate Rivera’s career.

On behalf of the Padres organization, Hoffman presented Rivera with a customized Yankees beach cruiser bicycle so he could “live the San Diego lifestyle” upon his retirement.

They also included four additional bikes for Rivera’s family.
