Taken with the sixth overall pick on June 5 in the First-Year Player Draft, Skipworth is a left-handed hitter who has reminded evaluators of Minnesota's Joe Mauer.

Skipworth is expected to take batting practice with the Marlins on Wednesday. The plan is to have him begin playing for Florida's Gulf Coast League team on Thursday in Jupiter, Fla.
