Royals Charities: Going the Distance

The Kansas City Royals and Royals Charities are committed to being active members of the Kansas City community and region. Created in 2001, Royals Charities strives to support children, education and neighborhoods in and around the Kansas City area. The foundation accomplishes this mission through financial donations, as well as in-kind support, including memorabilia, tickets and publicity. Under the leadership of the Glass family, Royals Charities has donated more than $5.2 million since its inception.

Below is a sampling of the Royals Charities signature events and programs.

Royals Run: 5K Run/Walk

MLB All-Star 2012 5k Royals 5K Run/Walk, which debuted in 2009, will not be held in 2012 due to preparations for the upcoming MLB All-Star Game and related festivities, including the MLB All-Star Game Charity 5K Run & Fun Run presented by NIKE. Plans call for the Royals 5K Run/Walk event to return to the ballpark in 2013. If you are interested in running in the MLB All-Star Game Charity 5K Run & Fun Run please visit allstargame.com/5k.

50/50 Friday

50/50 Program An in-stadium fundraiser from Royals Charities in which a lucky fan can win big! Volunteers sell raffle tickets from the time gates open until the end of the fifth inning. One winning ticket will be selected with the winner taking home half of the evening's net proceeds. The other half will be divided between Royals Charities and a local Kansas City charity. Dates for 50/50 Friday are April 13, April 20, May 4, May 18, June 1, June 22, July 13, July 20, August 3, August 17, August 31, September 14 and September 21.

Royals Charities Broadcast Auction

Royals Charities and Fox Sports Kansas City partner for a special on-air auction, giving viewers the opportunity to bid on unique ballpark experiences or purchase an exclusive Royals ticket package on Wednesday, June 13. The auction begins during the Hy-Vee Royals LIVE pre-game show and continues throughout the telecast.

Diamond of Dreams: Taking the Field for Operation Breakthrough

Diamond of Dreams Diamond of Dreams, which debuted in 2008, will not be held in 2012 due to preparations for the upcoming MLB All-Star Game and related festivities. Plans call for the event to return to the ballpark in 2013. The annual event features appearances from current and former Royals, a fabulous menu, an exclusive silent auction, live music and a spectacular fireworks show with proceeds benefiting Royals Charities.

Royals Celebrity Golf Tournament

Golf Tournament Hit the links with current and former Royals at the annual Royals Celebrity Golf Tournament held at the National on Monday, August 13. The event also features a reception, awards program and auction. Proceeds from the tournament, held at The National Golf Club of Kansas City, will benefit the Special Olympics of Greater Kansas City Metro.

Royals Legacy Brick Program

Legacy Bricks It's Back!!! We are proud to announce the Royals have now moved into a new phase of the brick program featuring a Limited Edition All-Star Legacy Brick. The grand walkway at Homeplate Gate C features moments in Royals history surrounded by personal messages from fans all over the country. Secure your place in Royals history by purchasing a personalized brick and leave your mark at the ballpark! A portion of the proceeds from the Royals Legacy Brick Program support Royals Charities, benefiting children, education and neighborhoods.

Royalty Fields Grant Program

Royalty Fields Created in 2006, the Royalty Fields grant program is an ongoing Royals Charities effort that strives to improve baseball and softball facilities across the Midwest. Baseball and softball programs in Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, Arkansas or South Dakota can apply for a Royalty Fields matching grant of up to $5,000 for major renovations.

Shirts Off Their Backs

Shirts off Their Backs Royals Charities hosts Shirts Off Their Backs, giving fans the opportunity to win an autographed jersey from a Royals player on Saturday, September 22! Throughout the designated game, volunteers will sell $1 instant win scratch tickets. Following the game, winners will be escorted to the field where they will receive a game-worn jersey directly from one of the Royals. Fans also have an opportunity to bid on one of the spots and secure their place on the field. Proceeds benefit a local Kansas City charity.

T.A.K.E. Defense

T.A.K.E. Defense Royals Charities partners with The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation to host a T.A.K.E. Defense self-defense class on the field at the ballpark on Saturday, September 29. The class is free-of-charge and open to all females ages 12 and older. More than 2,670 women have been educated in self-defense at the ballpark since Royals Charities first hosted the program in 2008.
