Mike Groopman, Director - Baseball Operations/Analytics
Mike Groopman is in his 10th year with the Royals and third as the club's Director-Baseball Operations/Analytics, being promoted to his current role on January 5, 2015. He served as the Director-Baseball Analytics for the previous three seasons and two seasons as an Assistant to Baseball Operations. He was also a Baseball Operations Administrative Assistant (2009) and Baseball Operations Intern (2008) with the club.
Groopman is involved in all areas of Baseball Operations and oversees the quantitative research, development, and analysis within Baseball Operations, coordinating efforts with Major League operations, Amateur and Professional Scouting, and Player Development.
Before joining the Royals, Groopman served internships with the Cincinnati Reds' Baseball Operations department in 2006, the New York Mets' Baseball Operations department in 2007 and Major League Baseball's Labor Relations Department prior to the 2008 season.
Groopman received his B.A. from Columbia University in 2007. A native of Brookline, Mass., he currently resides in Kansas City, Mo., with his wife, Erin, and daughter, Eliza.
