As part of the Buck-A-Roo program, John Buck will host families living with autism and/or children in the foster care system for a Friday Marlins game. Each Friday, 30 Buck-A-Roos will receive a bright yellow Buck-A-Roo t-shirt, a voucher redeemable for a hot dog, soda and bag of chips, as well as Founders Club seats located behind home plate.
"We have a soft spot in our hearts for children with autism and developmental delays. Kids living with Autism encounter daily struggles, yet they are fortunate to face them with their families. There are thousands of kids in South Florida that don't have a family to call their own. The Buck-A-Roos program not only supports families living with developmental challenges, but also brings joy to children who are growing up in foster care. My wife Brooke and I wish that through the Buck-A-Roos program, we can provide a positive experience in the lives of all of these children and families." - John Buck
John Buck has partnered with The Marlins Foundation to build the first ever Miracle League in Miami. This special custom designed rubber turf field will not only provide children with special needs protection and accommodation for their wheelchairs and walkers, but will make their dreams come true by allowing them the opportunity to play and enjoy the game of baseball.
On April 14, 2012 John Buck, Gaby Sanchez, Heath Bell and The Marlins Foundation presented The Miracle League of Miami-Dade with a check for $100,000. Now you too have the opportunity join John in making the miracle league field a reality.
In 2011 the Marlins made their second consecutive trip overseas to spend time with military personnel, this time visiting U.S. troops stationed in Southwest Asia and Germany from Feb. 3-11. At the time, newly acquired John Buck volunteered to take part on this trip. Over the eight days, Buck and the Marlins packed in as many visits and meet-and-greets as possible, as well as conducting two baseball clinics for young players. The trip also included a stop at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, which serves as the nearest treatment center for wounded soldiers coming from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Buck and the rest of the Marlins contingent celebrated a great American tradition with the servicemen and women overseas by taking part in their Superbowl Sunday party.
Upon his arrival back to the states, John participated in events during Caravan for the Troops which raised nearly $250,000 for the MCF.
Buck, along with some of his teammates visited the United States Coast Guard base in Miami Beach, and toured some of the rescue vessels they operate and signed autographs as well as posed for photographs with the crew.
As part of Caravan, John Buck participated in a softball game with Stand Down House, an organization that serves disabled veterans. The game took place at Roger Dean Stadium, where the Marlins spring training facility is.

John Buck and Gaby Sanchez have been strong supporters of The Boot Campaign and is ju st another way they have supported the troops in the last year. The Boot Campaign is a grass roots initiative set out to rally support for the troops. The Boot Girls want every American to "get Your Boots On" by purchasing the "give back" combat boots. They provide an easy and tangible way for Americans to show support of our troops (both past and present) that's practical and directly benefits our military. Proceeds from boot sales are donated to partner charities, which assist returning veterans dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and varying degrees of physical injuries.
