The Marlins are proud supporters of Teach for America. For the 2010-2011 school year, the Marlins Foundation provided a $25,000 donation to Teach for America to sponsor five teachers from Miami Central High School and five teachers from Miami Edison Senior High School.
Teach for America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates, of all academic majors, who commit two years to teach in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong leaders in expanding educational opportunity. Since their inception in 1990, the Teach For America network has grown to include more than 20,000 individuals. Currently, some 6,200 Teach For America corps members teach in 30 urban and rural areas profoundly affected by the achievement gap. They are working extraordinarily hard to ensure that their students achieve academic success despite the inequities they face.
"One day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education."
