Hendrickson: Vikings, ice fishing and wiener dogs

Oct. 13, 2003

Back to Arizona Fall League >

What's going on everybody? My name is Ben Hendrickson. I play for the Milwaukee Brewers. I am 22 years old from Eden Prairie, MN. I live there with my mother Elaine, her fiancée Mike and my wiener dog named Bentley. Just because I play for Milwaukee doesn't mean I am a Green Bay Packers fan. I still have to stand by my Minnesota Vikings no matter how good or bad they are. I do know they always end up beating the Packers one time a year even if the Vikings are having a terrible season.

I spend most of my off-season in Minnesota freezing my butt off. My off-season consists of hunting, working out, and ice fishing. I always ask my southern friends if they have ever walked on water, because I do it every year -- they look at me as if I am crazy. It's the truth though. I also work a little bit for my uncle on his apartments that he owns. So I try and keep as busy as possible during the off-season.

I usually depart to Phoenix in the middle of January (for Spring Training), which is quite a nice change, from going from 10 below zero degrees to 70 degrees. Arizona is my favorite place to visit and I will end up moving down there for good sometime in the near future. Sorry ladies, I have the best woman in the world -- her name is Diana and she lives in AZ. That is another reason I love coming to Phoenix.

This time I am in Phoenix for the Arizona Fall League Fall League, playing for the Peoria Sagauros. We started out 5-0. I am teamed with players from the Mets, Marlins, Padres, and Rangers organizations. It has been fun thus far and we are already playing as a team -- surprising for only one week together. It was a little strange though looking across the locker room and seeing the Carolina Mudcats, who beat my 2003 regular season team, the Huntsville Stars, in the final game of the Southern League Championship. But that's what makes the game the great game that it is.

Anyway, I better get going. I look forward to writing more journals. Enjoy them and I will talk with you soon.

Ben
