Focus Area | Comments |
| Fastball: | Armstrong threw only 40 pitches in the start, but his fastball was in the 88-92 mph range. |
| Fastball movement: | He's got some life to the fastball, with some sink down in the zone. |
| Changeup: | He has a third pitch, but hasn't shown/needed it. |
| Control: | His command is average right now. A small head whack in his delivery throws it off. |
| Poise: | He is very good on the mound, even-keeled but aggressive. |
| Physical Description: | Armstrong is tall and lean, all arms and legs, and very athletic. |
| Medical Update: | Healthy. |
| Strengths: | Major League bloodlines; projectable frame; very athletic despite height. |
| Weaknesses: | The head whack in his delivery, though that is correctable. He hasn't shown a third pitch. Because of basketball, he gets off to a late start. |
| Summary: | He's got many things going for him: Big-league lineage (his dad, Jack, was a Major League pitcher), athleticism (he's a legitimate college basketball prospect) and a tall and lean projectable frame. He's also shown two good offerings he can throw for strikes. Because of his split focus, both with basketball and in playing first base on the diamond, he's still raw as a pitcher. But all of those positive attributes are sure to have several teams interested on Draft day. |
