Focus Area
Comments
Hitting Ability:Carroll has made some very good adjustments and has swung the bat well all year.
Power:He's getting the barrel on the ball more consistently and has been driving it more as a result. He's more of a line-drive, gap-type hitter with good college power that may not translate
Running Speed:He is a marginal runner.
Base running:While he doesn't have much speed, he is pretty smart on the bases and hasn't been thrown out stealing this season.
Arm Strength:His arm is below average.
Fielding:He's likely going to be limited to left field in the future.
Range:His lack of speed does limit his range.
Physical Description:Carroll has some pretty good size and strength as a left-handed hitting outfielder.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Improved hitting approach with good size and strength.
Weaknesses:Being limited to left field, the questions about his power at the next level become amplified.
Summary:Carroll turned down an offer a year ago to sign with the Nationals as an 18th-round pick to return to Kentucky. The Wildcats must be happy as the senior has been among the Division I leaders in hitting for much of the year and has dramatically improved his power output. Scouts do not think, however, that the power will translate to the pro game, and the fact that Carroll will be limited to left field, at best, does cap his Draft status somewhat. Still, he's bound to enhance his round by a good margin this June.
