Focus Area | Comments |
| Fastball: | Eichhorn threw his fastball in the 88-91 mph range. |
| Fastball movement: | It has a little rise to it, a little jump, when it's up in the zone. When he's down in the zone, there's a little arm-side sink. |
| Curve: | He's got an average curve. |
| Control: | He's got plus command, especially for a high schooler. |
| Poise: | He has terrific mound presence. |
| Physical Description: | Eichhorn is small and athletic, a middle infielder when he's not pitching. He's been compared to Tim Hudson. |
| Medical Update: | Healthy. |
| Strengths: | Advanced pitchability and terrific mound presence; Major League bloodlines. |
| Weaknesses: | He is on the small side and with a little head whack, he seems to be a maximum energy guy on every pitch. |
| Summary: | A huge start in front of a large audience at the National Classic in late March certainly didn't hurt, but Eichhorn will have to work past the "undersized righty" stigma. He does have two decent offerings, plus command and poise to help him with that, as well as good bloodlines -- his father Mark spent 11 seasons in the bigs. A few years at Santa Clara might not hurt, but that will depend on when he's drafted. |
