School:Riverview HS (Fla.)
School Type:High school
Academic Class:Senior
Weight:175 lbs.
Report Date(s):02/13/08

Focus Area
Fastball:In his first start of the year following a season that saw him shut down due to weakness in the back of his shoulder, Ferrara threw a fastball that topped out at 91 mph.
Curve:Ferrara threw a small, hard curve in his three innings of work.
Changeup:He didn't throw any changeups in his first outing of the year.
Control:He was generally around the plate, a good sign for a first start.
Poise:He didn't have any issues with poise facing one of the state powerhouses.
Physical Description:He's not the biggest guy in the world, though there is room for growth. But it's his arm people are most impressed with and concerned about.
Medical Update:He's now healthy after what's been termed a minor shoulder issue. Ferrara consulted with Dr. James Andrews, who told him all he needed was a good strengthening program.
Strengths:When he's on, he's got above-average stuff, a power lefty with a fastball-hard curve combination.
Weaknesses:No matter how minor the shoulder issue was, scouts will need to be convinced it won't be a recurring problem.
Summary:Any pitcher coming off of any kind of injury is always going to be difficult to place in terms of Draft status. If he stays healthy, he's got a chance to go pretty high as a southpaw with some plus stuff. There will be some risk involved, but isn't there always when high school pitchers are concerned?
