Weight:195 lbs.
Report Date(s):03/27/08

Focus Area
Fastball:Maronde was throwing his fastball up to 92 mph.
Fastball movement:It had arm-side life.
Slider:He has a short one, not big and sweeping, that acts almost like a cutter at times, running in on right-handed hitters.
Changeup:It's just OK right now, a work in progress.
Control:It was good in this start, but has been inconsistent in the past.
Poise:He dealt well with sloppy conditions and the inability to warm up in the bullpen.
Physical Description:Maronde is a tall, lanky left-hander with a projectable frame who should fill out well as he matures.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:The possibility of a three-pitch mix, highlighted by an above-average fastball.
Weaknesses:He has had trouble repeating his delivery and release point. When that happens, his command suffers.
Summary:It's not often that you can tell someone to head to Kentucky to see top-notch Draft prospects, but that's the case in 2008. Maronde may be the cream of that crop, a projectable lefty with an above-average fastball and the possibility of two other pitches to go with it. Some issues with mechanics have led to command problems, but that certainly won't keep a team from taking him fairly early in the Draft.
