Position:Starting Pitcher
School:University of San Diego
School Type:College
Academic Class:Junior
Weight:200 lbs.

Game(s):Loyola Marymount

Focus Area
Fastball:Matusz touched 93-94 mph, but sat more comfortably in the upper 80s to low 90s in this start.
Fastball movement:He's a lefty, so he's got some natural movement, mostly sink.
Slider:It's kind of like a cutter and it's effective to get hitters off the plate.
Curve:It's a go-to out pitch at times. He throws it for strikes and it's a swing-and-miss pitch.
Changeup:It's another go-to pitch at times for the left-hander.
Control:He's got good command of all his pitches.
Poise:There aren't any reservations with his mound presence or poise.
Physical Description:Matusz is a tall lefty who has room to grow and has deception in his delivery.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:He can throw four pitches, all of which are at least average, for strikes. He mixes pitches well.
Weaknesses:He hasn't pitched off of his fastball as much as you'd like to see and the velocity hasn't been where most expected it to be.
Summary:After a slow start to the season, Matusz has remained one of the, if not THE top pitcher in this year's Draft class. The lefty has four pitches he can throw for strikes and isn't afraid to use his entire arsenal in a game. His velocity has been a little down this year and he hasn't pitched off his fastball as much as some would like, but he's still got front-of-the-rotation potential and is likely to see his name go off the board very early on Draft day.
