Fastball:Tonkin showed an average fastball that ran up to 91-92 mph.

Changeup:He showed a good feel for the changeup, 78-81 mph, with some drop to it.
Control:Tonkin threw all three pitches for strikes and mowed down hitters in his one inning.
Poise:He showed excellent poise. This was his second showcase at the Academy (he attended a June event for juniors) and he seemed more confident in this outing.
Physical Description:Tonkin is a big right-hander with a deceptive, jerky delivery.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Tonkin has always been an arm-strength guy, but he showed good development of his secondary pitches and more polish at this event than he had in the past.
Weaknesses:Some might be scared off by his delivery. While height in high school right-handers is usually a good thing, Tonkin is so big there could be some concern about his ability to repeat his mechanics consistently.
Summary:Tonkin's size and arm strength have always been intriguing, but his early-season showing at the Urban Youth Academy may have put him more firmly on the map. He's an intriguing arm who'll be watched carefully. If he can continue to evolve into a more complete pitcher, he'll soar up the charts.
