Biographical Data

School Type:High school
Academic Class:Senior

Focus Area
Hitting Ability:Torrez can flat-out hit the baseball. He uses excellent bat control and makes solid contact, usually up the middle and the other way. He's got a short and compact swing.
Power:He's very strong, but there's no lift in his swing. He's a line-drive guy. He's got raw power and the feeling is game power will come later.
Running Speed: Torrez is an average runner and moves well.
Base Running:He's got good instincts and will steal a few bases.
Arm Strength:It eventually will be average. He's got plenty of arm, but his throwing mechanics are not allowing him to maximize that right now.
Fielding:He's a solid defender. He's got good hands -- that's the best part of his game -- but he's not a shortstop at the next level.
Range:He's got average range. If he settles in as a second baseman, he'll be just fine there.
Physical Description:Torrez is muscular and thick, with a Carlos Baerga-type build.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:His bat and his approach. He plays the game like a veteran.
Weaknesses:There's no glaring weakness, but there's no plus tool other than the bat. He's not enough of a defender to play shortstop.
Summary: He gets the ultimate compliment from scouts by being called a real "baseball player." He's a five-tool player, with the bat as the only plus one. Defensively, he'll make for a good second baseman as a pro and has a very mature makeup. His brother is the second baseman at ASU and he is committed to the same school.
