Comments
Fastball:Jenkins threw his fastball in the 90-94 mph range. He throws a two- and four-seamer.
Fastball movement:It has hard, heavy and late sink to both sides of the plate, inducing ground balls.
Slider:It's an out pitch and he throws it 80-85 mph.
Changeup:He shows a plus one, an out pitch to left-handed hitters, thrown 80-83 mph with late sink and fade.
Control:He's got good command of all his pitches.
Poise:He's a smart pitcher with great pause who makes excellent adjustments on the mound.
Physical Description:Jenkins is a big burly right-hander, a workhorse type with broad shoulders, long arms and thick, strong legs.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths:Three pitches that can be above-average to plus, good command, good feel for pitching.
Weaknesses:He'll occasionally try to overthrow to try and get a strikeout. He doesn't have a long track record of success to draw from.
Summary:Over the course of his junior season, Jenkins caught up to, then passed up teammate Kyle Heckathorn on Draft boards. With a terrific three-pitch mix and a good idea of how to pitch, Jenkins looks like a durable workhorse who will fit nicely into a big-league rotation in the not-too-distant future. He comes from a small school and doesn't have a long track record of success, but that shouldn't keep him from going off the board in the first round.
