Comments |
| Fastball: | Dyson will flash plus stuff with a
fastball up to 96 mph. |
| Fastball movement: | Throws pretty straight
four-seamers and tends to elevate the ball without a lot of life. |
| Slider: | Power slider gets up to 86
mph. |
| Changeup: | Will flash an average changeup, but he
might be a two-pitch guy in the future. |
| Control: | His command is average in the zone.
He'll throw strikes, but not always where he wants to throw it. |
| Poise: | Appears to be a good competitor and
battler on the mound. |
| Physical Description: | Dyson has a strong lower
half and a Trevor Hoffman-type build. |
| Medical Update: | Sat out his freshman season due
to a torn labrum in his shoulder, and there was some concern that he's not 100 percent now. |
| Strengths: | Flashes two plus power pitches in
his fastball and slider. |
| Weaknesses: | Struggles with command at times and
he's got an injury history that might be of concern. |
| Summary: | Dyson was a pretty hot prospect in
high school, sliding to the 19th round because of his strong commitment to South Carolina. He redshirted his
freshman season due to a torn labrum and was brought back slowly a year ago. This season was meant to be his coming-out
party and it's been a mixed bag. At times, he's flashed two plus pitches in his fastball and slider, but the
stuff and his command have been inconsistent and his results have followed suit. Someone may take a shot, based on
the pure stuff, but there's a little bit of a buyer-beware buzz with the right-hander. |
