Position:Second base/Third base
School:University of North Carolina
School Type:College
Academic Class:Junior
Weight:187 lbs.
Report Date(s):3/6-3/8/09

Focus Area
Hitting ability:Seager is a pretty good hitter with decent bat speed.
Power:He's not much of a home run guy, though he does have some extra-base pop.
Running speed:Has fringe-average speed.
Base running:He does make the most of what speed he has with good instincts on the basepaths.
Arm strength:Has got plenty of arm for either third or second.
Fielding:A solid defender at both positions, with good footwork and hands.
Range:His range is OK; probably better at third than at second.
Physical Description:Seager isn't that big, but he has some strength to him. He reminds some of a Jed Lowrie type.
Medical Update:Healthy.
Strengths: Good overall hitting ability; the skills to handle two defensive positions fairly well.
Weaknesses: A leg kick he uses for a trigger disrupts his timing. His lack of power doesn't profile well if he's a third baseman.
Summary: Seager is another advanced bat from the University of North Carolina. While not as elite as teammate Dustin Ackley, he can swing the stick pretty well. He doesn't have a ton of power and that could help dictate what position he plays professionally. He's played both second and third well, but most feel he's best suited for the former, where his offensive skill set profiles better. As a pretty good offensive middle infielder, he could go pretty high on Draft day.
