108Stilson, JohnTexas A&MRHPR/R6'03"2001990-07-28JR
Comments: Thought of mostly as a great bullpen arm heading into this year, Stilson's work as the ace of Texas A&M's rotation initially provided teams interested in Drafting him with some options. Stilson intrigued with two has two plus pitches in his fastball and changeup. In relief, he'd been able to crank it up to 96-98 mph, even touching 99 mph. He was learning to pace himself as a starter, throwing his heater 90-95 mph and sitting comfortably at 91-92 mph. His changeup is plus plus, with late action to it (sink and run). He'll throw it at any point in the count and it's his go-to pitch. Those two pitches alone could make him a future closer. He's got an average curve and slider, serviceable breaking stuff that complements the other two pitches well. His command is a tick below average, but it's not a problem and he's got above-average control. The thought was that the team taking the 20-year-old could send him out as a starter, knowing that shortening him up to a setup or closing role was always an option. But any plan for taking him early in the Draft ended when it was announced he needed surgery to repair a torn labrum.
