Rich "Goose" Gossage
One of the most intimidating closers of all-time, Rich "Goose" Gossage was a big, hard-throwing right hander whose 100-mph heater dominated hitters over his 22 big league seasons. Gossage led the American League in saves three times, was a nine time All-Star and the featured closer on three pennant winners and the 1978 World Champion Yankees. In 1981 Gossage posted a dominant 0.77 ERA, allowing just 22 hits in 47 innings while saving 20 games for the Yankees, helping them to the AL pennant. The Goose retired after the 1994 season with 310 saves and 115 relief victories - good for eighth and third, respectively, on the all-time charts.
